Cisco Network Convergence System 4200 Series

Summary/ Overview

Optimize with a Packet-Optical Framework Improve flexibility and cut costs with Cisco Network Convergence System 4200 Series. With its best-in-class Circuit Emulation technology, it offers any-to-any connectivity, along with 90 percent savings over traditional TDM transport architectures. Service providers can use the 4200 Series to build a network of the future and support the delivery of legacy TDM services, in addition to OTN and Ethernet.

Product Description/ Features/ Specifications

The 4200 Series is part of the Cisco Evolved Programmable Network architecture. It is capable of delivering outstanding scale with high-density Circuit Emulation technology, Ethernet as well as Optical Transport Network (OTN) capabilities, over a redundant, protected, packet-based network (MPLS/Flexible Label Switch Path (FlexLSP)).

The 4200 series supports any-to-any connectivity using very high-density TDM, SONET/SDH, OTN and Carrier Ethernet (Fast Ethernet, 10, 40, and 100 Gigabit Ethernet) interfaces.

It also provides:

  • A carrier class design that significantly reduces power and cooling costs compared to legacy products
  • A complete central office modernization option for legacy TDM Digital Cross Connect System (DCS) migration

Other benefits of the 4200 Series include:

  • Service flexibility and delivery of Layer 2, Layer 3, IP, and MPLS transport for advanced VPN and multicast services
  • A compact form factor for deployment in locations that are space-constrained
  • Suitability for deployment in areas with minimal environmental control

In addition, the 4200 Series is supported by the Evolved Programmable Network Manager application. This provides simplified, converged, end-to-end lifecycle management across an optical and Carrier Ethernet infrastructure. The application is designed with software-defined networking (SDN), network functions virtualization (NFV), and multilayer management in mind.
